"Once, there was a tree"

The Giving Tree is one of my favorite books. It is about the selfless giving of a tree to a boy. There is some controversy over the giving of the tree. Some argue the boy is selfish or that the tree's giving is not teaching the boy self reliance.

The tree and the boy's relationship can be compared to relationships we have in our own lives. In a parent- child relationship, the giving a parent can do is quiet selfless many times. As a parent myself, I would be quiet disappointed if I waited for reciprocity for the giving I did. At the same time, many parents receive emotional needs fulfilled in that they enjoy feeling wanted or useful.

It is very hard for a lot of people to recognize that there are different types of needs. In every relationship there is a give and take.

The Duggar Family are fundamentalists and members of an evangelical Christian movement called Quiverful who believe children are blessings from God. Of course they are, but they are taking it in an extreme way. 18 children is radical and that is why they are getting a lot of attention.

I find this an awkward Featured Question.

Jimmy and I went to the Ryman tonight. The coal miner's daughter was there! I love living in Music City, USA. It has great, live music everyday of the week. And it is not just country and bluegrass, we have a great symphony and symphony hall. Also, an hour away every year, we have Bonnaroo! Bonnaroo is a kickin music festival. I didn't get to go last year because I was in school, but we are hoping to go this year. Jimmy really wants to see Metallica.
